Betting Preview: Stoke v Tottenham

Today I’ll be doing a little betting preview ahead of our game against Spurs on Monday night in a very important game for our title challenging visitors.

We take on Tottenham on the back of heavy defeat at Anfield, in possibly our worst performance of the season. The performance did little to please fans after throwing away a two goal lead at home to Swansea the week beforehand, putting an end to our impressive performances, and all but ending our chances of qualifying for Europe. Tottenham themselves have been in good form having won three of their last five games in the league, most recently dispatching Man Utd, quite impressively, at home 3-0.

Mark Hughes still has his eyes set on our best ever league performance and points total, with the slimmest of hopes of qualifying for Europe to play for, as we sit 9th on 47 points after 33 games. Our form recently has been fairly poor with only one win in five which was the game away at Watford. We have done very well at home against the so-called bigger clubs this season having beaten Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City. Despite some critics saying we struggle for firepower we have scored in our last eight consecutive league games from a mix of different players showing our quality all over the pitch.

Tottenham managed to blow Man Utd away in six spectacular second half minutes last week and come into the game knowing that Leicester slipped up at home giving them a great opportunity to cut the lead down to 5 points with a win at The Britannia. With no real injury concerns, Tottenham will probably go for an unchanged side, quite the contrast to our own recent injury problems and making a big decision on who will be our No 1 goalkeeper after Jack Butland’s injury.

We have quite a mixed head to head with Tottenham at The Brit since being promoted back to the Premier League with them having the slight edge – four victories to three and no draws in the seven meetings that have occurred. We managed to stage an impressive second half come back at White Hart Lane earlier in the season, although this looks a very different and more confident Spurs side to the one we faced there.

I’m finding this a really tough one to call, I’d like to think that we can hold our own at home like we have already against the big teams and stutter Tottenham’s title charge and come out with a creditable draw. I’m sure Kane will be keen to impress in order of cementing his starting place for England at the Euros and probably prove a bit too much for our current leaky defence. I fancy a fast-paced energetic game with both teams going for the win and ultimately cancelling each other out leading to a 1-1 draw.

Selected Bets:

Both Teams to Score (Best priced at 10/11)

Harry Kane to score anytime (Best priced at 5/4)

1-1 Draw (Best priced at 7/1)
