Pre-Match Preview: Tottenham
So the next location on the road will need no introduction as the lads head South tomorrow to the famous and iconic Wembley Stadium. As we all know Tottenham Hotspur currently play their home games at Wembley whilst White Hart Lane is being re-developed into a 61 thousand state of the art all seater Stadium. This is due to be ready for the 2018/19 season and will be slightly bigger than the Emirates Stadium which has a capacity of 60 thousand – we are reliably informed that White Hart Lane was designed to be deliberately bigger !
Spurs currently sit in 6th position on 25 points some 18 points adrift of the runaway leaders Manchester City. Spurs were indeed widely tipped for an assault on the title itself but appear to be stumbling along at present and are certainly off the required pace for that. Spurs have not won in the previous 4 Premier League games prior to tomorrow (2 wins and 2 draws) therefore arguably this is a good time to play them. Famous last words…..Wembley has a capacity of 90 thousand and indeed it is an impressive national stadium. However we only have around 3000 away tickets therefore we will of course be massively out numbered – I am sure we can still make ourselves heard. The Stoke fans will find themselves in block 116 which is the lower tier (pitch level) and in the corner – tickets are priced at £30 each and we have sold out the allocation as expected.
If you are travelling by car, parking provision is not so great near to the stadium itself. I would recommend that you possibly park up at Stanmore (which is conveniently located close to the M1) and jump on the tube from there to Wembley Park station, it only takes about 15 minutes and is just 5 stops. This is good for getting away afterwards and avoiding the traffic around Wembley. If you intend to use the train, you are likely to arrive at London Euston station from Stoke on Trent. From there my advice is to come out of Euston Station, keep right and walk 5 minutes to Euston Square underground Station. From there jump on the Metropolitan Line (purple) to Wembley Park – this is the quickest and is a direct service. You can get the underground from Euston Station itself however this would require a change at Kings Cross and possibly Baker Street depending on which service you get. Euston Square keeps it simple.
As for pre match refreshments – well if you come from Stanmore I would recommend you disembark at Kingsbury which is one stop prior to Wembley Park, there are a few pubs here to enjoy. Alternatively if you head for Baker Street which is on the Metropolitan Line – The Globe is a good pub right outside of the station and is often used by football supporters heading to Wembley. For me, I would recommend The Green Man Pub and Hotel a short walk from Wembley Stadium itself – the address is Dagmar Avenue, Wembley HA9 8DF. This is a nice big accommodating football pub that always generates a good atmosphere pre match and is only a short walk (albeit up a hill) from the Stadium itself.
Anyway that is all from me, I hope this bit of info helps. I am looking forward to the day out and believe we have the players to get a result tomorrow. Lets stick together, support the lads (and Manager) and show everyone once again that we are the best supporters in the world.
See you tomorrow.
