Player Ratings – Southampton

Jack Butland – 7

Was so quick off his line throughout the whole game and made some important saves, didn’t stand a chance with Southampton’s goal.

Mame Diouf – 7

Took his goal well with a lovely header and worked so hard down the right but was a little sloppy and also was hesitant at times.

Kurt Zouma – 8

Solid performance on his return to the side, became unbeatable in the final stages and played a huge part in securing the win.

Geoff Cameron – 7

Calm on the ball and always played his pass, wasn’t troubled defensively, good return.

Kevin Wimmer – 7

Another who wasn’t troubled defensively and an all round good display considering he was rushed back into the starting eleven after an injury.

Erik Pieters – 7

Noticed an improvement in Pieters recently, much better both on and off the ball, made good progress down the left.

Joe Allen – 7

Another one who has slightly improved, good stuck in from the first minute, picked up a silly yellow and was still a little sloppy at times but still an improvement given recent performances.

Darren Fletcher – 8

The usual consistent performance again, so good on the ball and showed his leadership qualities throughout.

Xherdan Shaqiri – 8

Basically all attacks went through him, looked dangerous every time he was on the ball and a perfect delivery for Diouf’s goal.

Saido Berahino – 5

Won the penalty and missed the penalty, didn’t do much more, will he ever score?

Maxim Choupo Moting – 7

Another who looked dangerous and did so well to keep it alive for Crouch’s winner, could’ve done more to prevent the cross that ended up being Southampton’s equaliser.

Peter Crouch – 6

Was at the right place at the right time to score yet another winner.

Ibrahim Afellay – N/A

Late arrival, didn’t have the time to make an impact.

Glen Johnson – N/A

Came on, got beaten far too easily then the final whistle thankfully went.
