Player Ratings : Liverpool

Another defeat that can only be blamed on some stupid choices from Hughes….

Lee Grant – 6

Made some decent saves and stood no chance with both goals. Again, could question his distribution.

Glen Johnson – 7

Much better than his performance against Leicester, went forward well and did his defensive duties to a good standard. Linked up with Shaqiri well.

Ryan Shawcross – 7

Overall a solid display, dominant in the air but a couple of dodgy passes.

Bruno Martins Indi – 7

Just like his partner at the back, another solid display. Some good work with the ball at his feet.

Erik Pieters – 6

Should’ve gave away a penalty but lets not talk about that. Failed in his attempt to play Firmino offside who went on to smash one past Grant, although he looked solid on the left the majority of the game, his final ball let him down.

Xherdan Shaqiri – 8 – MOTM

Fantastic to see him back. Scored a beautiful goal that was unfortunately just inches offside. Lovely work down the right and ball in to Walters who finished it. Wasted possession a few times but showed quality skill and pace on the ball, oh boy I have missed you Xherdan.

Joe Allen – N/A

Can’t rate Joey on this one, went off injured just inside half an hour. Did nothing worth mentioning while he was on. Hope his injury ain’t too bad.

Geoff Cameron – 7

Grafted well and provided good support to the back four and took the ball forward when needed, some misplaced passes as always but solid overall

Marko Arnautovic – 7

Overall a good display from Arnie, created some glorious chances. Had a half decent chance himself that he fired into the side netting.

Saido Berahino – 6

Should’ve equalised but it was somehow saved, grafted as he always does but didn’t cause any other problems.

Jon Walters – 7

Lost his man well for the goal and made no mistakes heading home. Put the work in as he always does but didn’t cause Liverpool any other danger.

Charlie Adam – 6

Exceeded my expectations, much better than his recent performances, actually pulled of some passes although should’ve buried a chance after some dodgy Liverpool defending from a corner. Still couldn’t last till the final whistle after getting subbed on after half an hour.

Glenn Whelan – 4

Pathetic clearance fell straight for Coutinho for an easy finish. Gave away possession a few times, came on to provide protection and ended up conceding twice moments after his appearance.

Ramadan Sobhi – N/A

Came on for final ten minutes, wasn’t given enough time to change the game.

Mark Hughes – 2

Got it right in the first half. No Imbula on the bench and putting Whelan on for Walters cost us the game. The reason we lost today was down to him.
