Player Ratings : Manchester City
Good point. Good performance. Good ratings…
Lee Grant – 7
Didn’t actually have much to do after a superb defensive performance. Made a pretty simple save from a Kolarov free kick and that was about it. Knocked the ball around well close distance but didn’t find his man too many times going long range.
Phil Bardsley – 8
Kept Sane in his pocket, stuck to him all game and ensured he did not cause any threats to the point we took. Only lost him once which realistically should’ve ended in a stoppage time winner but somehow Sane failed to connect. Quality performance from Bardo, kept one of City’s biggest dangers in his pocket.
Ryan Shawcross – 9 MOTM
After a couple poor performances lately he was superb today, stuck to Aguero all game not giving him a sniff of goal. Fantastic captain performance. Hope Aguero found his way out of his pocket by now.
Bruno Martins Indi – 8
Nobody expected him to play but he turnt up and kept the Manchester City front line all at bay. Showed his brute strength and power well, very solid performance. The best Shawcross & Indi have performed together in a long while.
Eric Pieters – 7
Kept control of De Bruyne the majority of the game although he did find space down Pieters’ left hand side later in the second half. Crosses were his usual poor standard apart from one lovely cross that Diouf should’ve buried. Big shout out to his headed interception from Aguero that was going straight in the top bin.
Mame Diouf – 7
Put his pace to good use, caused Clichy problems when running at him. Work rate was superb and protected Bardsley when he needed support. Should’ve scored from a Pieters cross but failed to connect.
Geoff Cameron – 8
Ran around well and a top quality defensive display. Not the best on the on the ball, gave away possession a few too many times but overall a solid performance giving the defence the protection they needed.
Joe Allen – 8
Much better performance compared to his poor displays lately, shows that he is quite clearly not a CAM. Ran like there is no tomorrow, providing protection for the back and even helping out going forward. Understandably got tired towards the end, didn’t track man that should’ve ended in Silva scoring but he thankfully somehow missed the target.
Ramadan Sobhi – 7
Absolute pleasure watching this young man play, ran riot once again down his left hand side. Otamendi and Sagna were left praying for the final whistle after being ripped apart by Sobhi
Johnathan Walters – 7
I’ll admit I wasn’t best pleased when seeing Walters in the starting line up but like he has so many times before, he’s made me eat my words. Another quality performance. Grafted well as always, showed his strength with some great hold up play and flicking the ball on to create chances for the likes of Diouf and Berahino.
Saido Berahino – 6
Wasn’t on the ball too much but a very good shift for first start, ran well and showed his strength at times.
Ibrahim Afellay – 6
Did well when coming on, not too heavily involved but pulled of the majority of his passes.
Glenn Whelan – N/A
Came on to shut up shop, wasn’t involved that much but did what he got sent out to do.
Gianelli Imbula – N/A
Ran into a tackle once and that’s about it, not going to bother giving him a rating but lovely to see him actually playing some part in a game.
Mark Hughes – 10
Haven’t done this before and probably won’t make a habit of doing it but as much as I don’t like Hughes and wouldn’t lose any sleep if he got sacked, I have to admit his tactics were spot on tonight. Evreyone knew their job, very well organised. Maybe we actually do some defensive training after all.
Agree? Disagree? Tell me.
