Player Ratings : Manchester United

BPTV 2

After a good result aghast Manchester United that left fans gutted after letting it slip right at the very end, its time to examine the individual performances once again….

Lee Grant – 8

Absolutely no chance with the free kick, made some solid punches and catches when under pressure from the United big men, questionable spillage when clashing into Shawcross and was lucky it didn’t fall and a United players feet, yet some solid saves and fine reactions to keep us in the game.

Glen Johnson – 7

In a solid defensive performance Johnson was arguably the least strong out of the back 4, yet still a solid enough performance, Mkhitaryan easily got past him a few times but nothing too major. Average.

Ryan Shawcross – 8

Very dominant in the air and a fantastic performance from the skipper, dealt with Ibra very well and made sure he hardly caused us any problems, certainly one of his stronger performances as of late

Bruno Martins Indi – 8

Much like Shawcross, a very dominant display in the air, dealt with the attacking threats well and made a couple of game saving blocks and interceptions, for me Bruno was the man of the match.

Eric Pieters – 7.5

One of Eric’s better games this season after coming under much criticism of late he today showed why he shouldn’t be dropped just yet, linked up with Arnie well going forward, few sloppy passes but an assist is an assist regardless of who it went in off, picked up a silly yellow card for a dive but other than that, a much better performance, one of his better this season.

Glenn Whelan – 8

Defensively solid performance, made some fantastic strong challenges and blocks, also made sure the United was kept at bay. Started the game with some over hit and misplaced passes but again similar to Eric, one of Glenn’s better performances as late

Charlie Adam – 6

Worst player on the pitch today, lost possession far too many times, made his fair share of successful challenges but it wasn’t good enough again for Adam, certainly the right time for Hughes to look at his other options for this role.

Xherdan Shaqiri – 7

After being harsh on Shaq last week in calling him average this week he certainly was average, did nothing bad but didn’t do too much good, certainly made some solid runs that lacked any end product but tracked back well to help Johnson, didn’t cause Blind too many issues.

Joe Allen – 7.5

Made it very difficult for the United midfield to get any sort of rhythm going with his constant pressure, some great passes that didn’t amount to that much, gave away the foul that resulted in the Rooney goal when he didn’t really need to but yet again another consistent performance from Allen.

Marko Arnautovic – 7

One of his more quieter performances in terms of going forward although did link up very well with Eric very well leading to the own goal, similar to Shaqiri, didn’t cause his man Valencia too many problems but also made sure Valencia didn’t cause problems with our defence with some good work when tracking back. Good partnership with Eric both going forward and back.

Peter Crouch – 7

Despite being one away from his huge 100 Premier League goals landmark he didn’t look like reaching it this game, didn’t do too much in attack but certainly helped out when defending set pieces which was certainly need giving the threat United had. Held the ball up well and showed some excellent control but didn’t pose too much of  an attacking threat.

Ibrahim Afellay – 7

A good choice from Hughes to put him on, exactly what we needed in the centre. Didn’t impact the game too much, kept possession well the majority of the time but did make some silly errors especially dinking the ball straight into David De Gea’s hands when N’Goy and Arnie were running on in a 3 v 3 break away.

Julien N’Goy – 6.5

So good to see N’Goy getting game time in big matches like this one, always looked threatening in what he done whether it was making a run or taking on his man, didn’t do that much in his cameo but we have so much to see from this talent

Giannelli Imbula – N/A

Hard to judge a player who came on for five minutes, nothing stood out with his tiny cameo.

They you have it, a good result, average performance that left fans gutted . Please let us know what ratings you would change, have I been overly harsh on anyone this week? Always good to hear you thoughts in compared to mine.
