Twitter Reacts: Middlesbrough 1-1 Stoke
We are finally back. After another summer of English disappointment and Stoke anonymity the Premier League rolled into town. So could Stoke secure their first 3 points of the season or would we fall to yet another opening day defeat? The day began on a positive non-match day related note with the results of Jack Butland’s scan coming through.

And the boys were wished luck on their long trip up North by the greatest of heroes.
Good Luck @stokecity for the new season ahead #COYP

The squad selection was announced and unfortunately a certain Egyptian was missing from the matchday squad, which went down a treat with our African contingent.
@stokecity @Boro no sobhi no party

The programme produced by Middlesbrough was not up to a very high standard.
Not sure that @Boro have done their homework on @stokecity in the programme today, Julian Clary? #scfc #stokecity pic.twitter.com/yb7s95T47s

The match began and before the excitement of another new season had dispersed, fantasy football favourite, Alvaro Negredo dampened the Potters’ spirits
A million fantasy football managers will be punching the air.

Despair, dejection and downright depression would be the best way to describe Twitters reaction to Boro opening the scoring.

We can't defend, we can't break teams down, we can't cross, we can't take corners, we can't shoot. We can pass to an open man. Just about.

It would appear that our new Egyptian fans don’t seem to have the clubs best interests at heart.
@stokecity Pretty happy considering you just got scored against…. BRING ON SOBHI
— Hazem (@hazeax) August 13, 2016
But, most Stokies are used to this disappointment and tried to smile through the pain.
Sounds like we're playing well which is nice :):):)

The game ticked over to half time, and the second half began. But it was certainly not up to the quick and ferocious start of the first, with this being the main highlight of the first 10 minutes.
66- GOALLLL!!!!! Xherdan Shaqiri fires his free-kick over the wall and into the net via the post #Boro 1-1 #SCFC pic.twitter.com/OQ8lOTcVo1

All the anger and frustration that had been built up during the first 60 minutes was released.
OH MY GOD YES

you beautiful fucking dwarf
— Zach (@NOLAStokie) August 13, 2016
The stats showed that a set piece goal like this had been a long time coming.
1 – Xherdan Shaqiri has scored Stoke's first direct free kick goal in the Premier League since October 2013, nearly three years ago. Arrow.

And how could you ignore the little Swiss man’s signature celebration.

Imbula also had a highlight…
Imbula just sent about 5 Boro players to the concourse for a hot dog.

Little else occurred during the game as it finished 1-1, and funnily enough no players have tweeted about today’s game. But before you go here is one final thought to take from today’s game.
This is the first time we haven't lost on the opening day under Hughes, isn't it? Progress?

So now we move on to Man City next weekend. One request Stokies; more GIF’s lots more GIF’s, not enough for today’s game so lets have some more for next weekend.
